In February 2006, Jon and I were in the Wet Dog Cafe in astoria, Oregon with our friends Geno and Joanne Leech talking and eating cheeseburgers. A Portland-based band Shanghaied on the Willamette began performing "Tanqueray Martini-O." When Jon's talking, I've learned not to interrupt him but on this rare occasion I asked, "Didn't you write this song?" He stopped, listened and smiled, then got up and headed for the stage to introduce himself. After their performance, we discovered that Shanghaied had learned the sond in the Puget Sound area and had no idea where it came from.
Since that time we have heard a number of Jon's songs done by a variety of individuals. Although he consideres these tunes to be very personal and quirky, apparently the appeal of the music is wider than he ever anticipated. None of the songs on this cd were assigned. Some were recorded as long as 20 to 25 years ago.
Thank you to everyone who has taken the time to learn, perform, and record Jon's music.
